To redesign an ice cream scoop to be more durable and ergonomic while giving more attention to material choice in order to create an ideal handle for repeated use.
Design Objective:
Final Model and Improvements
Before redesigning the handle, I started my process by observing employees in an ice cream shop to help identify specific pain points caused by existing scoopers.
In these images, the user’s hand and wrist perform an almost complete 180° in order to form a ball of ice cream before lifting the scoop to be placed in a cup or cone. The amount of force and pressure applied to the scoop is greater than necessary for ideal functionality.
